English Language Learners (ELL)

English language acquisition and academic success are the primary goals of the English Learning Programs. Students are educated in supportive classrooms with native English speakers. Beginning English learners receive small group instruction to enhance their language acquisition. Instruction follows Arizona Standards. Enrollment in the Dual Language Program at Gilbert Elementary provides both English and Spanish speakers the opportunity to learn in a dual language/culture environment. In addition, adult English learners can enroll in the Adult ESOL Program which meets two evenings per week at Gilbert Elementary.

GPS is providing all certified staff with the training needed to meet the state-required SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement. All GPS district staff will have their full SEI endorsement by the August 2009 deadline.

 

 

Structured English Immersion (SEI)

Who:
Students in kindergarten through grade 12 who speak a language other than English.
Quién:

Adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Inglés para Adultos que Hablan Otros Idiomas
Who:
Adults age 16 or over from a wide variety of countries who want to learn or improve their English.
Quién:
Adultos de 16 años de edad o mayores, de una variedad amplia de países, que desean aprender o mejorar su inglés.
