Neely General Music
Each 40 minute General Music class is typically separated into four sections of activities:
Introduction to the Musical Objective: (5 minutes) This is where students enter the classroom, begin moving, singing,or listening. Students also are introduced to our "Word of the Week" and lesson content objectives. Students also use this time to put up their reward stickers on our "Knights of the Music Table" Wall to signal that they have performed admirably, participated appropriately, and demonstrated mastery of the previous week's objective.
Primary Activity Focus: (10-15 minutes) Students are encouraged to participate and work together to define and apply our primary objective to a piece of music or song. We use various pieces of classical literature, geographical folk songs, popular music, and program music to teach our students the essentials of music performance. Most of the time the activity will be performance-based where students will be involved in creating the music and analyzing it.
